The module is designed to build on the finance related knowledge and skills acquired by delegates in their earlier studies and provide a strategic understanding
of financial management policy and practices. It will provide a sound understanding of modern corporate finance theory and practice and will also review key aspects of current management accounting
practice and techniques.
Learning Outcome - Upon successful completion of the course, delegates will be able to:
- use contribution approach & quantitative techniques to analyse & solve a range of problems
- prepare and analyse a range of plans & budgets with the use of spreadsheet software and use same to do “what if?” analysis
- compute accurately and critically the costs for products & jobs using absorption costing & ABC
- analyse stock & profit statements using marginal and absorption costing principles
- evaluate the behavioural implications of budgeting
- evaluate different approaches to budgeting e.g. incremental & ZBB
- critically analyse direct cost variances using the planning & operational approach
- critically analyse sales & fixed overhead variances for marginal & absorption costing environments
- evaluate the implications of recent management trends e.g. TQM, JIT for management accounting systems & techniques
- evaluate & solve problems using current techniques in the context of manufacturing & service industries e.g. ZBB, ABC/B, quality costing, contribution
analysis, DCF, LP.
- critically analyse relevant costs & appropriate techniques for decision making & use them to facilitate the solution of a range of realistic management
problems
- critically interpret performance measures appropriate to different business situations
- evaluate a range of pricing methods, including transfer pricing situations
